Long post alert.
This is my Bestefar. He taught me to write poetry, shared his love to being outdoors with me, and showed me that family is precious.
He was my hero.
When I was in 6th grade, he went into the hospital for a planned heart surgery. Now being a registrered nurse and working a unit similar to the one he would have been on, I know sort of what could have happened. It was planned, should have been boring, in and out in a day or so. Unfortunately, that is anything but what happened. He got very sick, and then sicker, and never made it out of the hospital. He died suddenly on Friday January 13th, 2007. I can still vividly remember getting the phone call from my dad, who was crying. It was the first time in my young life that I truly felt my earth shattering.
Fast forward; April 5th, 2016. I'm supposed to be preparing for a project tomorrow but have been shuffling though old archived pictures instead! I've found so many gems; some that will remain hidden (hello awkward years) but many more that evoke such powerful memories with my family.
Theres been family camping trips, sending my brother off to boot camp, the birth of my nephew. And then this; just a simple afternoon with Bestefar, doing his crossword. I can seriously feel what is was like to sit in the couch where I took the picture from! I preach to my sweet clients every time I see them, and here Iam being the biggest offender. I'm looking at this beautiful image from my computer screen...as I send it off for print. I can't wait to frame this and put it on my wall.
Family is sweet. Family is precious. Family is lifelong...sometimes family is fleeting. These memories are a reminder of the moments we shared with them; sometimes they are joyful moments, sometimes they are just plain, simple, everyday moments. Each of these are cherished, and I feel lucky to have found this particular image, which reminds me of my childhood, of my grandparents, and a very special happiness .
Until next time my sweets <3
